Tuam was always going to be an exciting race and boy that is an understatement, with an exciting 5k of racing from the men not to mention a sprint finish to end. With GCH taking all top spots in the men’s and women’s races
The Tuam course is the fastest of the courses, with a fast 2nd kilometre and a fast finish and the results reflected that with 5 Sub 16 finishes tonight and 4 from GCH!!
611 participants took part and once again Galway City Harriers were well represented in the top spots!!!
In the Men’s race Matt Bidwell raced his first (and last) 5k and pushed the pace after just 2k to win the race in 15:23, Conor Dolan of GCH took second place after a sprint finish in 15:47 while John Greaney (GCH) took third in a new PB and first time Sub 16 finish in 15:49, well done John and all the guys for such a fantastic display and exciting race!! And not to forget Owen Byrne in 4th in 15:57
The Women’s Race was won by Regina Casey taking her 5th win in the series and not only breaking but smashing the 18 minute mark in 17:31!!!!!!!! Helen Corbett (GCH ) also had a storming run and left her old pb for dust when she came home second in 18:20. Absolutley deserved after a hard year off due to injury and hard work since to come back. Sinead Brody (GCH) was third in in 18:44. Also congrats to Grainne ni Uallichain (GCH) taking the fourth spot in 18:52.
Well done to Brendan Kennelly another PB in 19:34, Siobhan Egan in 19:36, Jane Walsh 20:25 and David Glynn 21:31.
Well done to all the club members who did the club so proud with all their fantastic achievements and to our Fit4Life members who took part for the first time in the 5k series this year.
A massive congrats and thank you to all at Tuam AC and all of the organisers over the past few months for their work.
