Galway 5k Series Results Week 2 Loughrea
Loughrea hosted the second event for the Galway 5k series tonight. The weather conditions (albeit improved on last year) was not as favourable this week with a dull breezy evening to contest against, not to mention a "nice" incline just before 3k!!
Numbers were slightly down on last week but even so 640 participants took to the roads surrounding Loughrea in a multitude of colours to brighten up the dull evening.
The Loughrea route is a little more difficult than last week but none the less many runners improved their times or kept them fairly even.
Galway City Harriers are always well represented and this week many more turned up after missing Athenry last week.
In the Men’s race Peter O’Sullivan (Loughrea AC) took first place on home turf in a time of 16:09, followed in second place by Conor Dolan (GCH) in 16:19 and third by John Greaney in 16:26. Well done 2 top spots by GCH again this week!
The Women’s Race saw Regina Casey (GCH) won her second first place title in the series in 18:05 and improved on last weeks race time, followed by Caroline Whirskey (Loughrea Ac) in 18:36 and in third by Jane Ann Healy (Athenry AC) in 18:40
Congrats to Jerome Debize (GCH) who ran a 2:50 marathon in Limerick on Sunday last and still managed 18:03 tonight and John Cronin who ran the Ballyhoura Mountain Marathon on Saturday and managed to go Sub 18 in 17:58 tonight. It was an achievement to even take part this week for them never mind achieve those times!!
And congrats to all who took part from GCH and our neighbouring clubs, keep up the good work!!!
A massive congrats and thank you to all at Loughrea AC for such a well organised event.
