Tullamore beckons for final weekend of National Track & Field events.
All roads lead to Tullamore this weekend for GCH athletes competing in the final events of the Track & Field season. The National Masters Track & Field Championships takes place this Saturday 18th August in Tullamore while Sunday will see the long awaited final of the National Track & Field League team competition, also being held in Tullamore.
Sixteen GCH master athletes will compete in the various events on Saturday along with the top master athletes in the country. Four GCH master relay teams will also be in action – great work by sprinter Majella Loftus in setting up a master relay communication network while sprint coach Brendan Glynn has been resident at the track in perfecting baton changeovers and block starts – terrific dedication which has been passed on to the equally dedicated athletes. Master competition begins at 11am Saturday. Best of luck to all athletes. Master’s timetable attached below.
Sunday will see the GCH men’s team compete in the National League final in Tullamore, 11.30am start. The GCH men’s team had competed in two rounds of the Premier Division of the League, finishing in fourth place, which guaranteed a place in the final. Cliff Jennings, Manager of this year’s team has called upon youth and experience to get to the final. The team have shown their grit and determination in the first two rounds – between injury and unavailability, many of the team members have doubled and trebled up in events in order to gain valuable points to ensure the club reached the final. Great credit to Cliff in his belief in the athletes and the team will be determined to make the medal podium sometime on Sunday evening. GCH will also have some athletes competing on the Galway County Women’s team who also qualified for the final, while Galway County also field a men’s team in the final. Good luck to all teams. League timetable attached below.
