Thrilling finals at the National Indoor Championships
The National Indoor Championships took place in Athlone over the weekend and the event showcased the very best of juvenile athletics in Ireland. Our athletes produced some great performances over the two day event after many months of dedicated training.
Robert McDonnell was the very impressive winner of double gold, firstly taking victory in the U18 Boys 400m in a superb time of 49.98 and the following day he claimed 200m victory in a swift 22.07. Ava McKeon led the field in the U15 Girls 60m hurdles winning convincingly in a time of 9.10 seconds. Mathieu Madden was supreme in the U15 boys High jump taking the national title with a jump of 1.65m. Ronan Duggan had a great battle once again with Daragh Fahy from Loughrea in the final of the U13 boys 60m hurdles and took a bronze medal , just 0.01 seconds behind Daragh in a swift time of 9.72 seconds. Ronan also finished 4th in the 60m the previous day.
Chloe Casey was agonisingly close to the medals in the U18 Girls long jump . Her jump of 5.29m in the fifth round was the same distance as the eventual bronze medallist but Chloe had to settle for 4th on count back. Chloe also had a great run in the 60m hurdles where she ran 9.06 seconds to take 6th position in a close fought final. Seren O’Toole finished 4th in the final of same race in time of 9.00 seconds just .04 off the bronze. Ben Moran also finished 4th in the U12 boys long jump with a great jump of 4.17m.
