Silver for GCH U20 team at the National Cross Country Championships
The 2018 National Cross Country Championships ( Even Ages) took place at the National Sports Campus in Abbotstown yesterday in cool but sunny conditions. A highly competitive day’s racing saw GCH’s U20 Men’s team take silver medals behind Clonliffe Harriers over the 6,000m course. Thomas McStay ran a strong race throughout and led the GCH team home in 14th position, he was quickly followed by Eanna Folan in 19th and they were well supported by Jack Maher in 69th, U18s , Aaron Brennan, Barry Murphy ,Cillian Jordan and Rian de Bairead produced strong performances too to make up the points in 19th, 32nd , 58th and 82nd place with the U18 points also counting toward the U20 points.
The day started off with the U12s in action over 2,000m. GCH ‘s Caitlin Podmore finished in 158th place and Richard McGrath finished 140th in the boys race with both athletes forming part of the Galway team. At U14 level Mia Craughwell was first home for GCH over the 3,000m distance. Eligible for this age group again next year she did well to finish in 58th place. She was quickly followed by Aoibhe Joyce in 88th place, Rachael Fahy 98th, Leana NicDhonncha 122nd, Clodagh Quirke 130th and Isabella Burke 137th.
At U16 level and running up an age, Emma Moore was impressive over the 4,000m distance finishing in 14th place overall. She was supported by Eimear Rowe in 61st place, Eabha Walsh 87th, and Gillian McGrath in 108th place.
