The 2018 County Indoor Championships take place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th January at Athlone Institute of Technology. Saturday’s competition will include events for athletes from U8 to U12 and Sunday will cater for the U13 – U19 age groups.
This Competition is an ideal event for beginners and for athletes of all levels of ability.
If interested please add your child’s name to the Entry Sheets in the Shed at Training from this weekend. The closing date for entry is Sunday 17th December 2017.
To participate athletes will need to have their 2018 membership fees paid before 3rd January 2018 as it is not possible to participate in Athletic Ireland events without Club/AAI registration. This is both an Athletic Ireland and Club policy.
Club Registration will be online again this year and will be available on our website www.galwaycityharriers.com from early December.
The events for each age group are expected to be as follows:
U8/9 (Born 2010 & 2011) 60m, 200m and Long Jump. Select 2 events
U10 (Born 2009) 60m, 400m, Long Jump Select 2 events
U11 (Born 2008) 60m, 600m, Long Jump, Relay Select 2 events plus relay
U12 (Born 2007) 60m, 600m , Long Jump, H Jump, Shot Putt, hurdles , Relay Select 3events plus relay
U13 (Born 2006) 60m, 600m, Long Jump, HJ, Shot Putt, hurdles, Relay Select 3events plus relay
U14 – U 19 (Born 2000 – 2005) 60m, 800m, LJ, SP, HJ, hurdles, Relay 4 x 200m)

Relays are selected by the Coaches at training and every effort will be made to include as many athletes as possible. However four are required to make up each team so it is not always possible to include everyone.
Athletes will need to have a club singlet to participate and they will be available at training at a cost of €15.
It is expected that over 1,000 athletes will take part over the two days from all over the county. All events are electronically timed/measured and results are displayed in the Stadium after each event and will be available to view on our Website and Facebook Page after the event.
Events of this size require a very large number of Volunteers from each club so it is likely that Parents will be asked to help out for a few hours on the day. No experience is necessary and helpers will be guided by more experienced volunteers.
