Limerick Marathon. GCH had a number of athletes competing over various distances at last weekends’ Limerick series of races: 3 athletes in the marathon, 12 athletes in the half marathon and 5 athletes in the 6 mile race.

Elaine Walsh of GCH was the first lady home overall in the Limerick marathon in a time of 2.59 while clubmate Neasa De Burca finished second running a great race and just missing the 3-hour mark with a superb 3.00.24.  Martin Kearney of Galway City Harriers broke the 3-hour barrier at 64 years of age, clocking 2 hours 58 minutes, a phenomenal achievement for an incredibly talented and hardworking athlete. In the Half marathon, Culain O’Meara and Sinead Foran were first GCH athletes to finish in 1.23 and 1.27 respectively, while Danny Carr was first master over 55 (1.26.02). Regeneron GLR  - Limerick race results available on the following link:

Galway County Day 1 Juvenile T&F results link: Day One of the 2019 Galway Track and Field Juvenile Championships was held on Sunday last in summer like weather in Dangan, with the U9 to U12 age groups competing in front of a large attendance at the NUI Galway venue. There were some great performances all round from our young GCH athletes. Well done to all our juvenile athletes who competed. Day 2 of Juvenile Championships takes place this Sunday 12th May in Dangan at 10am. Below is the link to the complete Day 1 results.

Galway 5km Series. We have already had two legs of the 5k series of races with many GCH competitors producing some great runs. First GCH lady and first lady overall at Caltra was Regina Casey (17.58) while first GCH male and 8th overall was Michael Kerrin (17.19). At the second leg in Craughwell, Gerry Carty was first GCH male in 10th place (17.19) while Grainne Ni Uallachain was first GCH lady and first lady overall (18.22). Next race up will be in Loughrea on Tuesday next 14th May. Results available on:

Irish Milers Club. Some of GCHs best middle-distance runners competed at the Irish Milers Club meet in Greystones with Keith Fallon making a comeback to track racing, winning his 800m heat in 1.56. Jack Maher ran a personal best clocking 4.02 over 1500m, and James Frizzell clocked 4.06, while his clubmates Neill Keane clocked 4.09 and Barry Murphy 4.12 (both ran new bests). GCH athlete Maebh Brannigan ran an encouraging season opener of 2.19 over 800m.

In the 3000m, new GCH signing Laura Shaughnessy ran 9.44 while GCH distance athletes Aaron Brennan and John Moroney clocked times of 8.52 and 9.06 respectively over the Men’s 3k events.

Fixtures: The Boston Scientific Block Marathon, Half Marathon, 10k and 5k series of race stakes place this Sunday, 12 May, 2019 from 8am at the Boston complex in Parkmore

Day two of the Galway County Juvenile Track & Field championships, for U13-19 athletes takes place this Sunday 12th May in Dangan, commencing at 10am.
