International athletics. European under 20 Championships. Congrats to Laura Nally who is travelling with the Irish under 20 Team as a member of the 4x400m Relay panel for the U20 European Championships in Boras, Sweden which will be held from today the 18th July to the 21st July. Round 1 of the 400 relays takes place at noon on Saturday with the final on Sunday evening. Timetable link and livestreaming link.

European Youth Olympics. Best of luck to Robert McDonnell who travels with the Irish team to compete at the European Youth Olympics to be held in Baku Azerbaijan, from the 21st to 28th July. Robert runs in the individual 400m - Round 1 of the individual 400m takes place on July 23rd with the final on the 25th. Robert has also been selected on the 4 x 400m medley relay panel. The relay heats take place on the 26th July with the final on the 27th. GCH sprint coach Brendan Glynn will also travel to Baku with the Irish team. National Juvenile Track and Field Championships. The National Juvenile Outdoor Track and Field championships continued last weekend in Tullamore, with Days 2 & 3 of the U14-19 individual championships programme. Galway City Harriers’ athletes secured an eleven-medal haul over the two days of competition – 6 golds, 3 silver and 2 bronze.

At Day 1 of the Juvenile Championships (July 7th) in Tullamore, GCH athletes secured four medals – 1 gold and 3 bronze. On that same weekend (July 6th) at the Junior & under 23 Championships, GCH athletes amassed a total of 5 individual silver medals and 4 relay team medals (l gold and 3 silver). Five new club records were also recorded at the Juvenile Games held at the end of June (pairs competition, u12-u13 events, u9-u13 relays). A massive well done to everyone on terrific performance over a busy few weeks of competition! Check our juvenile news page for detailed reports on the track and field performances.   

National League Final. Best of luck to our GCH men’s team and Manager Cliff Jennings who compete in the final of the National Track and Field League, which will be held this Saturday July 20th in Tullamore. Galway County Ladies and Men’s teams will also be in action. Events get under way at 11.30am.  

National 10 Mile Championships. Well done to Tim Jones of GCH who captured National master’s bronze medal at the recent National 10 mile Championships held in Dublin.

Local: East Galway AC host an AAI permitted 5k road race in Skehana Saturday July 20th next at 7pm. Race HQ is at Skehana Community Development pitch, with registration from 6pm.

National: Saturday 20th July. National League Final, Tullamore

Sunday 21st July. Juvenile B Championships and club relays, Tullamore.

Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th July. National Senior T&F Championships, Morton Stadium.
