GCH athletes were in tremendous form at this year’s National Cross Country Championships which was held in Abbotstown today.  The U20 team consisting of Eanna Folan (13th) , James Frizzel (15th), Thomas McStay (16th) , Joe Tannian ( 27th), Aaron Brennan (42nd)  and Michael Healy (88th)  produced a magnificent  team effort to take the National title.  As National U20 Champions the team has now qualified to represent Ireland at the European Cross Country Championships to be held in Portugal.

The U18 & U20 athletes competed together in the one race and Thomas McStay (who is still U18 )  finished in 5th place overall in the U18 category. Congrats Thomas on a fine Individual performance.

Prior to the U18/20 race Barry Murphy (28th), Cillian Jordan (31st), Alvaro Garcia Lara (35th) and Eoghan Jennings (39th) were victorious in the U16 Boys category with all four finishing in the top 40.  This is a huge achievement for these lads who have been clocking up the miles in wind and rain since September and it’s heartening to see all the hard work paying off.

Earlier in the Day Emma Moore ran a super race to win an Individual Bronze medal in the U14 Girls race.  Emma  now adds this medal to her 200m Gold title, and 800m titles at both the Indoor and Outdoor National Championships…. a dazzling array of achievements and all in one year!  Isabella Burke finished 35th place overall in the same race which was a brilliant result out of age.

Mia Craughwell ran well in the U12 Girls race today finishing  in 75th place and Jennifer Hughes finished 106th in the U16 Girls race.  Aoife King placed 52nd in the U20 Girls race.
