The 30th running of the British & Irish Masters Cross Country International races took place on Saturday last in Derry. Two of our stalwart GCH athletes ,Christine Kennedy (M60 women) and Martin McEvilly (M65 men)represented Ireland at the event. The Masters womens race and the Masters over 65 race was run over 6k, consisting of three laps of a 2k course. It was a fast race, quite muddy on parts of the course and included a gradual climb.

The overall winner in the Master Womens race was Claire McCarthy, representing the Ireland master 40 team. In the master 60 category, Christine ran a great race, fading slightly over the last one to two hundred metres , to finish third in her category, just seconds behind Ireland m60 team mate Pauline Moran of Mayo. Pauline was placed first, with the second placed m60 Gail Duckworth of England placed second - both with with the same times. Third Irish scorer was Noreen Bonner , with the Irish master 60 team finishing second, just one point behind England. Christines sister, Phyllis Browne represented Ireland on the gold winning master 65 womens tea.

In the competitive Masters men over 65, Martin McEvilly finished a credible eight, one place behind Irish team mate J.J. Murphy. The third Irish m65 finisher was John Todd in twelveth place.
