GCH hosted a hugely successful Awards Night on Friday 18th November in the Westwood Hotel . The event celebrated the achievements of Club athletes and members in their sporting achievements over the past year, including the recent National marathon win by their Senior Ladies team. The club presented awards across the Club to Senior Members, Juvenile Members and Fit4Life Members as well as to various teams and international stars.  

Galway City Harriers Senior Ladies team, who won the National Marathon team championships at the Dublin Marathon, Grainne Ni Uallachain, Sarah Collins and Siobhan Egan, received their National title medals as well as the Female team of the year on the night

The GCH National Track and Field League team which won National indoor silver team and outdoor bronze team medals won the Men’s team of the Year awards – attendees from the team (pictured) on the night were 

Brendan Staunton, Sean Breathnach, Igor Muntean, Luke Shaughnessy Linas Mitkas, Sean Kilmartin, Cillin Greene, Robert Meaghar

Gary Thornton, Eoghan Dobey , Cliff Jennings , Michael Breathnach, Brendan Glynn ( manager) 

PJ Coyle was awarded a Hall of Fame award for his tremendous work over the last 25 years in establishing the GCH Juvenile section and making it one of the most successful clubs in the country. 

Frank McGuire received an Achievement for services to Juvenile coaching, including a hugely successful sprints section which he has developed

Senior Athlete of the year – Male- was presented to Gary Thornton for his half marathon and marathon exploits, while the Senior ladies award winner was multiple cross country medallist and National cross country winning team member Niamh Hennelly

Masters athletes of the year were the incredible Sean Breathnach – who won multiple National titles and medals during the year in the Field, and broke the Irish indoor Shot Putt record, and Grainne Ni Uallachain- National marathon and half marathon medal winner and team gold winner

GCH National Juvenile gold medal winners 2016 were presented with certificates-  Cillin Greene, Nicole King, Seren O Toole, Lydia Doyle and Emma Moore, as were those athletes who won International caps in the year. 

GCH Juvenile relay squads who won National titles were also awarded , including several National record-breaking teams.

Fit for Life leaders were presented with certificates for their excellent work in training and leading huge numbers of new runners and joggers, and a number of Fit for Life athletes who completed their first half marathons and 10k races were also presented with prizes.

Coaches Matt Lockett and Jerome Debize also received awards for their huge commitment and advice given to athletes over the course of the last year and more. 

Many thanks are due to Cormac O Connor, Una Murphy, Gerry Carty, Vincent Jordan and helpers , as well as the fantastic MC on the night, club chairman Pat O Dwyer for making the night such a success.
