GCH athletes battle the Hills of Westport

Our U11 Girls were first off in Westport today on one of the toughest cross country courses in the country.  Mia Craughwell ran a very brave race from the front and held on for a silver medal in a close finish.  Kayla McKeon followed up in 39th place and Clodagh Quirke in 51st.

Next up were the U11 Boys where Richard McGrath and Ronan Duggan ran well finishing 58th and 64th respectively.

Emma Moore continued her winning form to secure the Gold medal in the U13 girls race and led her team to a well deserved gold medal position.  Isabella Burke and Ava McKeon were hugely impressive too out of age finishing 8th & 9th.  Gillian McGrath followed up in 26th, Eadoin Halligan 38th and  Nicole Quirke 42nd.

In the U13 Boys race Sean Dunne finished 39th and was followed by by Sean Duggan in 40th.

In the U15 Girls race Eimear Rowe ran superbly to take the bronze medal and the team narrowly missed the gold medals by 1 point to North Leitrim.  Team mates Jennifer Hughes , Ciara Dunne and Colma Ni Cheidigh followed up in 11th, 12th  and 29th.     

Cillian Jordan ran a tremendous race and was just outside the medals in 4th position in the U15 Boys race, Barry Murphy and Robert McDonnell  finished well up the field in 14th and 31st.

Out of age today Aaron Brennan was very impressive in the Boys U17 race taking home the silver medal and leading his team to the silver medal position.  Great perfomances too from Thomas McStay 9th, Michael Healy 11th  Gordon O’Connor  21st, Diego Brule 26th.

Ann Moroney took some time out from her leaving cert studies to compete in the Girls U19 race and secured the bronze medal in a well fought race.

Finally in the U19 Boys race Eanna Folan showed his class once again to take the  Gold medal.  Joe Tannian ran a great race to finish 3rd and Ronan Dirrane 4th.
