It was double gold for Sean Breathnach at the very competitive European Masters Indoor Championships, held over this past week in Madrid. A delighted Sean, current holder of the Irish Indoor shot putt record, took gold in the master 35 men category with a super throw of 18.06 on Wednesday, and went on the following day to take gold in the m35 discus with a throw of 47.46. Brendan Staunton, competing at his first Master Indoor Championships thoroughly enjoyed the experience, finishing in a very credible fourth place in the v35 shot putt with a throw of 13.47, and placing fifth in the discus with a throw of 38.37. On the track, Majella Loftus, also competing at her first Master Indoor Championships, raced credibly in the very competitive 60m sprints ( 9.04) and in the 200m where she was third in her heat in 29.60 - an amazing experience. Well done to our athletes !

Ireland finished 11th country out of 32 on the medals table in Madrid, with a total of 29 medals (8 gold, 13 silver, 8 bronze).
