Galway Senior Men's & Ladies Teams take XC Gold

It was a great weekend for Galway, with the Inter County Cross Country Gold Cups coming back to Galway for the first time in 30 years!!! For the first time in 42 years the XC Champs were held in Galway so what better place to collect a win than on home turf!!

GCh were proud to be represented in the Captain Seat for both the Men’s and Women’s Teams, with Gerry Carty heading up the Men’s side and Siobhan Egan heading up the Ladies team.

The ladies team was led home by Laura Shaughnessy, who was also placed in second for the silver medal, Next was Kathryn Casserly, (Castlegar AC), third was Niamh Hennelly (GCH) and finishing for the team was Deirdre Brophy (Athenry AC). Well done to all 9 ladies who worked hard over the past few months!!

The Men’s Team for Galway was led home by Gary Thornton (GCH) who also took second place and the silver medal home with him, an absoluley fantastic achievement in such a competitive field!! Second home was John Moroney (GCH) who had a great run, third for the team was Brian Furey (Rathfarnham) and finally Matt Bidwell completed the fourth spot! Well done to all the guys who gave 100% to training for the XC this year…..

The Junior Ladies took silver home with Aoife King (GCH), Shannen Lee, Sarah Gilhooley, Aoife Sheehy (GCH) representing the county.

The Junior Men’s Team also took silver with three GCHer’s in the team mix Joseph Tannian (GCH, also winning the JM bronze medal), Eanna Folan (GCH), Damian O'Boyle, Gary Martyn Doyle (GCH).
