Galway Cross Country Championships - Day 1
Well done to all who participated at the Galway Cross Country Championships held today on a magnificent course at Palace Grounds in Tuam. A big thank you to Brian Bruton, Michael Fallon and the County Board for all the organising and to Iain Shaw for the Results.
GCH Juveniles put in some great performances today. There were individual wins for Isabella Burke in the U14 Girls race, Emma Moore in the U16 Girls race and for Barry Murphy in the U18 Boys race and the U14 Girls were the winners of the team event in their category.
The event started with the U10 Girls at 1pm. Ella Stenson ran a fine race to finish 19th and she was followed by team mates Eleanor Troy 20th, Alanah Joyce 22nd, Keilah Murray 24th, Rachel Francis 47th and Jessica Burke 52nd. The Girls finished 5th overall in the team event. In the U10 Boys race Carl O’Brien took 17th position, Harry Kay 19th and Nathan Podmore 39th.
In the U12 Girls race Caitlin Podmore ran a strong race to finish in 9th place overall and was quickly followed by Jessica Kay in 13th, Eva Boo 21st, Jane Fahy 22nd and Jodie Quirke 41st. The girls just missed out on the medals finishing in 4th place overall. In the U12 Boys race Richard McGrath finished 19th, Riley Stenson 22nd and Charlie Van Den Bergh 38th.
In the U14 girls race Isabella Burke made a great start to her Cross Country season taking the county title in style and leading her team to Gold. She was followed by Aoibhe Joyce in 5th, Rachel Fahy 8th, Clodagh Quirke 10th and Leana Nic Dhonncha in 14th position .
In the U16 Girls race Emma Moore ran superbly to take the County title and team mate Eabha Walsh ran stongly to take the bronze medal. Nicole Quirke finished 8th overall. Brian O Culain finished 7th in the U16 Boys race and was followed by Oisin Fitzgerald in 9th place.
In the U18 Boys race Barry Murphy and Cillian Jordan fought out the honours with Barry taking the County title and Cillian the silver medal. Finbarr McFadden finished 5th overall.
