Galway County Senior/Master Cross Country Championships report
Well done to all our athletes who competed at the recent County Cross Country Championships at the Palace Grounds in Tuam (Oct.6th). Great competition over a tough course with GCH athletes Kathryn Casserly and John Moroney winning their respective races and taking the Senior titles. Kathryn Casserly of GCH powered her way to victory in the combined Women’s 4000m race, running from the front all the way, to take a well-deserved victory. Clubmate Jane Ann Meehan had a great run to claim the second senior women's place. Eilis Ni Dhuil had a great race to take second master o35 and backed up by Niamh Hennelly (third o35), Sarah Lanigan (3rd Senior) and Eleanor Whyte, the GCH women took the team title. Eileen McCarty (first o50), Cora Grimes and Mags Sheridan completed the GCH women's team.
In the mens’ 8k race, John Moroney put in an impressive performance in taking the Senior mens’ title, running strongly from the half way stage of the race. Craughwells’ Mark Davis took second and senior silver, while Naoise O’ Gibne finished seventh overall and took County senior bronze. In a very competitive mens team competition, Craughwell took the team title. The GCH mens’ team finished in second with John first overall and Naoise in seventh place, followed by Brian O’ Connor (8th) and Gerry Carty (19th) with back from John Morrissey, Neill Keane, Niall Murphy (silver o50). Good to see GCH master Tony Fahy back competing at the County cross country where he took first o65 (4k). Alvaro Gamiz took bronze in the u19 6k race with Antoine Joal taking silver in the men's Junior 6k race. Well done all!
