Galway Athletes join forces for Team Ireland

Eight Galway athletes were selected  for this years Celtic Games International V teams from Scotland and Wales in Morton Stadium yesterday demonstrating  the current growing  strength of athletics in Galway .   This is attributal to many years of hard work and commitment from these athletes and also to a huge voluntary effort by Club Coaches, the County Board and parents within the various clubs. 

GCH has three representatives on the team.  Aoife Sheehy ran a magnificent race in the 400m hurdles to claim 3rd place.  Lydia Doyle  finished 4th in the 100m hurdles.  Aoife Sheehy donned the tri colour for a second time to join Club mate Laura Nally in the 4 x 400m relay where Aoife ran the 3rd leg and Laura the anchor leg to bring the team home  4th position.

Athenry AC were well represented by Ryan McNeilis in the 400m hurdles.  Daniel Callanan Forde from Loughrea AC competed in the Triple Jump and Craughwell’s Jerry Keary competed in  the High Jump, Laura Cunningham in the Triple Jump and Chloe Casey in the Discus.
