Galway 5k Series - Race 2 Craughwell
Craughwell AC hosted last nights second race in the Galway Renault 5k Series this evening 3rd May 2016. Always a contender for a PB course with a FAST start this year saw a huge number of runners come from far and wide to take on the second leg of the series.
The weather was a lot better than last week, with the sun shining amongst some intermittent clouds and aside from the little wind there was no reason for complaints!!!
730 runners took part this week. The route was the same as previous years, starting at the Craughwell national School, running fast downhill for the first km, turning left in the village towards Ballymore with a slightly undulating course to the end.
In the Men’s race John Greaney (GCH) stormed home to first in 16:12, followed in second place by Owen Byrne (GCH) in 16:21 and in third was Brian Furey (Rathfanham) in 16:24.
In the Women’s race Regina Casey (GCH) won in 17:36. Regina is having a phenomenal year already and just finished second in the West of Ireland’s Mini Marathon on Sunday. Barbara Dunne (GCH) was second in 18:18, and Grainne Ni Uallachain (GCH) was third in 18:36
Phenomenal stuff from GCH taking 5 out of 6 top spots!!!
Congrats to Martin Kearney who had a massive PB of 18:15, all those marathon miles have paid off. Ronan Diraane broke 18 mins in style in 17:47.
