The European Masters Track and Field competition concluded on September 15th after 12 days of competition in Venice, Italy. A belated congratulations to GCH sprinter Jim Phelan, pictured below with his relay medals along with sprint coach Brendan Glynn. Jim had a fantastic week of competition. After two terrific performances in the qualifying rounds Jim made the 400m o45 individual final where he placed a credible fifth in a new personal best of 53.23 seconds! Jim went on to secure two European medals in the relay events, first anchoring the Irish 4x100m M40 team to European bronze medals, setting a new National Record of 45.38 in the process. On the final day of the Championships, Jim was part of the Irish 4x400m M40 relay team who took Silver, with a new M40 National record of 3mins 33.64 seconds. Terrific first European Masters Championships for Jim !
