Day 2 of the Connacht Cross Country championships took place yesterday in the scenic grounds of Beleek Woods in Ballina and was hosted by Moy Valley A.C.  It was a bright but chilly day and the athletes really enjoyed the experience of running this challenging course.

GCH had two individual medal winners on the day, Fauve Aylmer and Barry Murphy and the U15 girls and U19 Boys brought home team gold.

Fauve Aylmer continues to impress over cross country this season taking on the best in Connacht in the girls U15 race with great confidence and determination.  After a steady start she made her way through the field to finish runner up behind Caitlin Hughes of Swinford.  She was soon followed by Mia Craughwelll in 10th, Saoirse Coleman 11th and Clodagh Quirke 12th  who all combined well to take  the team Gold in the U15 category with just 35 points.

Barry Murphy, competing  a year out of age in the U19 Boys category had yet another stellar performance this season.  He continued his good form with a hard fought third position behind Michael Morgan of Sligo and Thomas Devaney of Castlebar.  Barry led the U19 team to Gold and was followed by Rian De Bairead 10th, Cian Coyne 12th and Aidan brock 13th.

GCH had a great turnout in the U11 category.  The young athletes really enjoyed the day out and gained valuable experience participating at this level.  The standard was high and large numbers took to the line.
