Day 1 of the Connacht Championships U9 - U13
GCH teamed pairs, U12s and U13s enjoyed great success at the Connacht Championships in Claremorris on Saturday .
Elisa Jaime Stapleton and Juno Hayes were the outright winners of the U11 teamed pairs 60m sprint with Elisa running 9.37 seconds and Juno 9.46 seconds.
Sarah Donald and Ella Sisson were bronze medal winners in the U9 teamed pairs 60 sprint with Sarah clocking 10.32 and Ella 10.73. Sarah Donald later teamed up with Orna Dunne in the 300m and they also won bronze medals with Sarah finishing in 55.09 and Orna in 56.99.
Jessica Kay and Juno Hayes finished 4th in the U11 teamed pairs long jump narrowly outside the medals. Jessica jumped 3.35m and Juno 3.42m.
At U12 level Richard McGrath put in yet another great performance in the 60m sprint where he finished second in a swift time of 8.68 seconds. He also finished 5th in the long jump making the 4m mark and 5th in the hurdles. Shane Meagher picked up a bronze medal in the long jump with fine leap of 4.01m. He also ran a great 600m in a time of 1.56 seconds. Ronan Duggan finished 9th overall in the hurdles. Eireann Greene also put in a fine performance in the long jump leaping to 3.73m which placed her 7th overall, Jane Fahy jumped 3.17m in the same event and Caitlin Podmore jumped 2.82m. The U12 Boys relay also picked up bronze medals with Shane Meagher, Ronan Duggan , Richard McGrath and Jacob Carroll. The U12 Girls relay of Eireann Greene, Caitlin Podmore, Jane Fahy and Elisa Jaime Stapleton finished 5th in their heat.
There was great success too at U13 level where Kayla McKeon and Grace Lynch both won bronze medals. Kayla ran a fine race in the U13 Girls 60m hurdles clocking a great time of 12.08 seconds. Grace finished third in the U13 Girls Javelin with a fine throw of 11.22m and she also came in 4th in the long jump with a leap of 3.89m. Both girls also advanced to the semi finals of the 60m sprint.
