Connacht Championships U9 to U13
The Connacht Championships for U9s to U13s took place in Dangan on Saturday in wet and windy conditions. Well done to all our athletes who took part on the day. A big thank you to Amanda Hynes and to all who officiated on the day.
There were a number of medal winners and qualifiers for the Nationals after a long day of competition.
At U9 level Aisling Tauchen and Matilda Carroll won bronze in the 60m sprint teamed pair.
Orna Dunne and Lauren Foley won bronze in the U10 Long Jump teamed pairs and also well done to Ella Sisson and Sarah Donald who participated in the Long jump and 60m and long jump . The U10 girls relay won silver medal , the team consisted of Orna Dunne, Ella Sisson, Sarah Donald and Lauren Foley and subs Ailing Tauchen and Alanah Joyce.
Dara Breatnach and Mathew Murphy won bronze in the turbo javelin teamed pairs event. In fact Dara’s throw of 18.44m was a club record for his age and also the best throw in the competition
At U12 level Angela Cielecka was the winner of the 60m in 8.94 seconds and Juno Hayes won bronze in the same event. Juno also won silver in the shot putt and was 4th in the long jump qualifying for the Nationals in all three events. Ben Moran won bronze in the Long jump and was 4th in the Shot Putt qualifying in both events for the Nationals and he also finished 6th in the 60m final.
At U13 level Tara Keane won silver in the long jump and was 4th in both the javelin and 60m hurdles qualifying in all three events and also setting club records in her age group for both javelin and long jump. Richard McGrath won silver in the 60m hurdles and bronze in both the 80m and long jump while Ronan Duggan was 2nd in the 80m and 4th in the 60m hurdles. Ronan and Richard teamed up with Jack Barry , Conor Faherty and Shane McGovern to win bronze in the 4 x 100m relay.
The following athletes set GCH bests at Connachts;
U10 Lauren Foley – Long jump
U12 Shane McGovern hurdles,Charlie Van Den Berg Javelin, Juno Hayes long jump and Jessica Kay hurdles and turbo javelin.
U13 Thea Power Shot Putt and Richard McGrath Long jump.
Well done to Inga Cielecka who made the U13 girls final of the 60m finishing 7th overall. Yimika Oyelola was 3rd in the U13 girls 60m heats, Eireann Greene 5th in her heat, Aleksandra Rydzewska was 3rd in her heat and Caitlin Podmore 4th in her heat and 7th in 600m. Thea Power was 4th in the U13 girls 60m hurdles and Maiah Fleetwood 5th in the heats. Ruby O Flynn was 8th overall in the javelin.
At U12 level there were great performances too from Jessica Kay who won her heat at both 60m and 60m hurdles, Eva Boo was 3rd in her 60m heats and Allison Strange 5th in her heats. Jodie Quirke was 6th in her 60m heats. Jack Barry qualified for the 60m final where he finished a credible 5th overall. Shane McGovern was 3rd in 60m heats . Conor Faherty was 2nd in 60m heats and 6th in the 600m. The U12 boys relay team finished 4th overall.
