Well done to the GCH athletes who competed at the AAI National 10k Championships on Sunday last. The Championships were held over a welcome improved course in the Phoenix Park in conjunction with the Great Ireland Run. Conditions on the day were cold and blustery for the athletes with many clubs fielding strong competitive teams.

A terrific run by Regina Casey in a time of 36 minutes and fifty six seconds placed her 6th female overall and claiming the v35 National silver medal. Martin McEvilly claimed National v70 gold in 44 minutes while there were also some fine performances from the GCH crew who made the early morning journey to Dublin to proudly represent their club and ensure team representation.
Tim Jones was quickest GCH athlete on the day finishing in a time of 35.24, followed by Michael Kerrin in 36.33 and together with Martin McEvilly made up the GCH men’s v35 team which finished seventeenth out of thirty seven v35 teams.
The GCH women’s v50 team ran well to finish sixth out of the twelve v50 teams, led home by Barbara Bergin (45.49), Carmel Brannigan (47.13) and Mags Sheridan (48.20). Terrific Championships getting more competitive each year and worthy of club support
