St. Stephen's Day brought the, by now traditional, Fields of Athenry, flooded roads, chilly conditions and gale force winds. Actually there was no gale force wind and it showed in some superb performances. Matt Bidwell led the GCH challenge home with a fantastic sub 32 minute run and a 3rd place overall finish. Martin Kearney not only secured his first top 50 t-shirt but also ran a 10km PB for good measure. Niall Murphy also ran his best Fields yet to secure one of those sought after t-shirts. Club stalwart Seamus Coyne had, literally, the 10km run of his life to also run a PB. Gearoid Hynes continues his comeback with a very strong run and it was great to see Diarmud Coughlan put in his first appearance in a GCH vest this year while back on holidays from Newcastle.
Danny Carr and Bernie Kelly not only scored well in the club challenge but keep their ever present's streak going in the FoA.
Clare Rowe had a great sub-40 run to lead the GCH women home. In terms of the challenge Mags Sheridan and and Barbara Bergin scored well to leave the race to top stop still wide open and a four horse race between Mags, Barbara, Majella Ní Chriocháin and Siobhan Egan.
If I've missed any 10km PBs please post on Facebook or e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
