The Kearney’s Cycles Streets of Galway Organizing Committee wants to thank you all those people who volunteered their time to ensure that this year’s race was a great success. We estimate that up to 200 people helped us on August 9 and August 10 including 80 people who volunteered as race marshalls, over 40 people who helped to distribute at the 5K mark and at the finish, and 30 people who helped us to distribute the race packs in a timely and efficient manner.

Boston Scientific 5k Road Race

The Annual Boston Scientific 5k takes place on Tuesday 27th August at Maree Community Centre, Oranmore at 7pm.

Entries are €15 and registration is at www.runireland.com

Entries will also be taken at the Race HQ on the night (provided race limit has not been reached).

Entry Prizes in all categories. AAI Permitted.

All proceeds go to East Galway Cancer Care so please support.

Martin Egan Memorial 10k Race

The 4th Annual Martin Egan Memorial Race 10k takes place on Saturday 31st August in Gort at 6.30pm.

Entries are €15 and registration is at www.runireland.com
Entries will also be taken on the night from 5.00pm

Prizes in categories including 1st, 2nd & 3rd Male and Female. 1st O/40, O/50 & O/60.
The Martin Egan Memorial Cup will be presented to the overall winner, with a second cup been presented to the first local person home.

Manual timing, race clock. Refreshments served in Community Centre after the race. AAI Permitted.

Fit 4 Life takes a well earned rest!

Fit4Life Training takes a well deserved break after this week and resumes again on Monday 16th Sept.

Many thanks to all the Leaders who have led groups so capably night after night.
Bernie and all the Fit4Life participants thank you so much, without you there would be no Fit4Life.

Bernie will be recruiting some more Leaders for the upcoming term so if you think you have what it takes contact her on secretary@galwaycityharriers.com and she will organise some training for you before resuming in September.

Bernie Kelly - European Athletics Women’s Leadership Award

Athletics Ireland is delighted to announce that Bernie Kelly (Galway City Harriers) has been selected as the Athletics Ireland National Recipient of the Women’s Leadership Award. This award recognises and celebrates the important contributions made by women throughout Europe to the sport of athletics.

The biennial awards, which were given for the first time in 2009, are the centrepiece of European Athletics’ strategy to promote the development of women leaders and gender equity in the sport.

Craughwell 5k Fun Run 16th June

Craughwell Senior AC club are holding a 5k on Sunday 16th June 2013 at 1pm.
Entry is €10 on the day.
Registration takes place from 12noon at Craughwell National School.
Run starts at 1pm from Craughwell National School.
Jones counter measured and AAI permit granted.
Lovely fast flat course encircling Craughwell Village.
Runners, joggers and walkers are all very welcome, however, you must be over 16 years of age.

4th Annual Mayo 5k Series

The 4th Annual Mayo AC 5k Series of five races starts Tuesday evening 18th June and continues onon for the following four Tuesdays, all at 8pm sharp.

June 18: Castlebar, Registration at Harlequin Hotel
June 25: Claremorris…Athletic Track
July 2: Ballinrobe…Soccer pitch
July 9: Brickens..Community Centre (between Claremorris/Ballyhaunis)
July 16: Ballyhaunis...Rugby Club, followed by Series After Party.

Results of Galway 5k Series - Tuam Leg

Congrats to Peter O’Sullivan (Loughrea AC) who was first home in the Men’s Race in a fantastic time of 15:46 followed by Owen Byrne (Galway City Harriers) with a PB of in 16:06 with Patrick O’Toole (Mayo AC) coming 3rd in 16:45.

Taking first place again in the Ladies Race was Regina Casey of GCH in 18:33, followed in 2nd place by Sinead Foran (Athenry AC) in 19:17 and Ruthann Sheehan in 3rd place in 19:30.

Well done to everyone who took part and a special thanks to Tuam AC for organising the last race of the series.

Galway 5K Series - Ballybrit Results

Galway City Harriers hosted this week’s leg of the Galway 5K Series which took place on Tuesday 28th May.

A huge congrats to John Greaney (Galway City Harriers) who was first home in the Men’s Race with a PB of 16:28, followed by John Lane (Craughwell AC) in 17:04 with Lyall Guiney (Athenry AC) coming 3rd in 17:29.

Taking first place again in the Ladies Race was Regina Casey of GCH in 19:14. Ruthann Sheahan (Athenry AC) came in second place in 19:55, followed by Jane-Ann Healy (Athenry AC) in 3rd place in 20:09.

Galway 5K Series - Craughwell Results

Galway City Harriers had 67 participants in the Craughwell leg of the 5k Series on Tuesday 21st May.

First home for the Men’s Race was Owen Byrne (Galway City Harriers) with a PB of 16:09, followed by Timmie Glavey (Mayo AC) in 16:26 with GCH’s Billy King coming 3rd in 16:32.

First place in the Ladies Race was Regina Casey of GCH in 18:29, Sinead Foran (Athenry AC) came in second place in 19:28, followed by Jane-Ann Healy (Athenry AC)in 3rd place in 19:35.
