Congratulations to Alanna Lally who has been honoured by Galway Bay FM as the 2013 Athletics Sports Star of the year. Such an amazing achievement.

There is an overall prize of “Youth Sports Personality of the Year” and the overall winner is decided by a vote.

Racing Results October 12th and 13th

Lots of racing this weekend…..

NUIG 8K – Saturday 12th October
Saturday saw the NUIG 8K in our familiar surroundings at Dangan.

Matt Bidwell of GCH came first in 26:30 while Andrew Annett challenged him to take second place in 26:33 and taking a well-deserved third place was John Greaney in 28:11.
And well done to Gearoid Hynes of GCH coming home in fourth place in 28:23.

GCH Club Challenge Results 11th October

Latest results from the 2013 GCH Club Challenge which now includes last Sunday’s County Cross Country.

Looks like the Cross Country Season might really see things shaken up with the scores.

NOTE: There has been one amendment to the RULES as now only 5 races will be counted for both the Men’s and Women’s Challenge and not 7 as originally stated.

2013 Connaught Cross Country Championship

The 2013 Connaught Cross Country Championship for men and women take a different format this year. It is to be held over 3 days starting with
Round 1 which will be held on Sat 12th Oct in Moyne Community School, Co Longford
Round 2 will be held on Sun 27th Oct in Hazelwood, Co Sligo and
Round 3 will be in Roscommon on Sun 3rd Nov

The 12th October is the first of a  three race championship for Novice, Intermediate, Masters and Senior individuals with overall club competition combining all four categories.

Grey Lakes 10k and County Championship Results

Congrats to all who took part in this year’s Grey Lakes 10k, which was incorporated into the Galway County 10km Championship’s 2013.

First home was Gary Thornton of Galway City Harriers in 31:00 however hot on his heels for most of the 1st half of the race was Noel Berkeley who placed 2nd in 32:19, third was Matt Bidwell of Galway City Harriers in 33:55 who also went onto take the Mens O40 title on the day.

Connacht Cross Country

Connacht Cross Country Adults

This year the Connacht Novice, Senior, Inter and Masters are to be  run as a league over three events to coincide with the Connaught Juvenile races.

Points will be awarded to individuals based on their finishing position (1st  =25pts) for each of the categories.

Points will also be awarded to top 4 club finishing positions.

At the end of 3 races there will be 1st, 2nd 3rd winner of each category and 1st, 2nd, 3rd overall club regardless of category.

You have to declare your category when registering and stick with it.

Fit4Life returns Monday 16th Sept

Just a reminder that Fit4Life recommences Monday night Sept 16th at 7pm at Westside Library and continues thereafter every Monday and Thursday night (except for Bank Holiday Mondays when we do not meet)

The Galway Kenya Run

The Galway Kenya Run 14th September will be held at Dangan Sports Complex Galway 1pm to 5pm on Saturday 21st

Walk, Run or Crawl 800m and see your time agains the David Rudisha 1;40;91 world record for 800m. Runs start every 10min.

NO registration ,just turn up and give a donation.4.00pm Celebrity 800m ( Free Event) 4.20pm Elite Galway city Mile; Athletes will attempt to break the 4 minute barrier Galway for the first time. (Free event)6.30- 8.00pm
