[acidfree:1649 title=" " align=right]...you can see forever apparently and indeed, despite it being just seven days from the shortest day of the year, it was easy to believe this saying such were the blue skies and bright sunshine that greeted the GCH/Fit4Life troops as we descended on Kilmurry-McMahon earlier today for the local St Mary's Athletic Club annual running of the Bernie Meaney memorial 5K road-race.

[acidfree:1553 title=" " size=200 align=right]I'm delighted to report a great GCH/Fit4Life turnout in Craughwell today for the 2nd annual Craughwell/Fit4Life 5K road-race. I counted at least 15 of our members (and I'm sure a few more appeared on the starting-line), a significant proportion of the overall lineup.
The first year of Fit4Life has gone extremely well with 177 now joined. Members from the group have taken part in many local road races and 5 completed the Dublin City Marathon. The emphasis is now on the Fields of Athenry 10K road race on St Stephen's Day.From now to Christmas no new beginners will be taken on. Anyone wishing to join will have to wait until after Christmas when the next batch of beginners will be catered for. This only applies to complete beginners, if you can jog a few miles then you are still most welcome to join.
The very successful GCH Fit4Life training programme is taking a summer break and will resume on Tuesday 9th Sept at 7pm at Westside Library Carpark on Seamus Quirke Road. To the 113 participants, enjoy the rest. To the dedicated clubmen and women, thanks very much for all the help over the last 9 months. To anyone out there who enjoys recreational running/jogging but finds it a bit lonely on one's own then think about joining the group where the craic is only mighty!
