2002 Streets of Galway 8k Report

Last Saturday saw a record number of participants assemble on the start line for the O2 Streets of Galway 8K. This was the seventeenth renewal of this annual high calibre race which had long been a sell out.
Men's Competition
The race, as is now tradition, got off to its prompt start at 7.30pm. A large initial lead group soon emerged. This group included Mullingar Harriers team mates David Burke and Cormac Finnerty, Providence College graduate John Galvin representing St John’s Clare, Olympian and six times national 10,000 m champion Noel Berkley, three times national 10K champion Gerry Ryan GCH, last years winner Ben Noad Bristol AC, last years runner up Martin Mc Carthy, Leevale, Nigel Brunton, Clonliffe Harriers, Tom Carey Limerick, Michael Traynor, Raheny Shamrocks and GCH trio Paul Mc Namara, Gary Thornton and Ian Egan.

2001 Streets of Galway 8k Report

Last Saturday, August 11, saw yet another successful staging of the FILA Streets of Galway 8K. The race limit of 1000 was reached which meant that several late comers missed the opportunity to participate.
Men's Competition
The race itself got off to its traditional prompt start at 7.30 pm on Prospect Hill. A large lead group quickly established itself. This group included the Harty brothers, William and Philip, from Waterford, Paul Mc Namara, GCH, bronze medallist in the national 3000m steeplechase, British international Ben Noad, Bristol A.C. Gerry McGrath DSD, Martin McCarthy Leevale and representing sponsors FILA, Greg Luke Civil Service AC Liam Morris, son of the legendary Willie GCH, Ian Egan GCH, Stephan Vautier France, Gary Higgins Sligo AC and Matt Hooley USA.
