The Boston marathon 2014 proved to be a testing course but 5 tough Galway City Harriers were up to the challenge and all came home over the line having battled the downhill course and in higher than predicted temperatures.

Gerry Carty was first home in 2:56:24. This was a new PB for Gerry so well done on holding out to go Sub 3 and take home a new personal best.

Next was Sean Hanley in 3:09:42 and. Lawrence Kelly came home in 3:18:14 which was such a great achievement.

Michael Greene who won Gold in the 2013 Dublin Marathon crossed the line in 3:30:30.

This was Matt Bidwell’s second win of the weekend following on from Saturdays win (and PB) in the Kilmovee 10k.

It was tough conditions on the course this year as despite the sun shine, there was strong winds on the day so times were slightly down but none the less some good performances & results especially by GCH

Well done to everyone who braved the elements in both the East and West on April 5th.

It was a busy weekend in racing with two large events occurring.

In Connemara
The Connemara is always a popular target each year in all 3 events and this year there was not only the mountain to contend with but rain, hail and wind. Not easy on an already challenging course.

The 4th event of the 2014 GCH Club Challenge took place at Craughwell 10 mile on Sunday 23rd March.

We had a great turnout of GCH participants on the day and a guest appearance by the sunshine also.

There were lots of new faces at this event and hopefully this is just the start of many more appearances at the challenges.

We also saw lots of County Medals come from Craughwell so well done to everyone on their achievements!

Craughwell 2014 - a personal race report with pictures

The StartI've been running pretty well for a good few months. I'm racing almost as fast now as I was 11 years ago when I got all my personal bests in distances from 5k through the half marathon. Back then I was running six days a week and was more fit than healthy; I was on the physio table with shocking regularity and frequently trying to shake recurrent colds.
