Best of luck to Keith Fallon who is wearing an Irish singlet for the first time in the International University event tomorrow in the 1500m at the Scottish University & College Athletics championships.

Keith qualified as a result of his 800 and 1500m gold indoors at U23 All Ireland's earlier this year.

Best of luck Keith, what a great achievement!

And also best of luck to all the club members in Aviva All Ireland Schools Track & Field Championships tomorrow Saturday 31st May


Galway 5K Series Results Race 5 Ballybrit

It was a glorious evening in Ballybrit this evening which hosted the GCH leg of the Galway 5k Series and fifth race in this years league. It was also a special race tonight in that it was the 50th race in the Galway 5k series overall.

The course was changed this year to accommodate more PB’s, set on a two lap circuit around the racecourse and its perimeter road. So this week the crowds came in their hundreds once again!!

577 participants took part and once again Galway City Harriers were well represented in the top spots!!!

Galway City Harriers are delighted to host the fifth leg of the Galway 5k series tomorrow night at 8pm at Galway Racecourse, Ballybrit, Galway.

This year we have a new improved fast course, which is on a two lap circuit around the racecourse and its perimeter road.

Galway Senior/Junior/Masters T&F 2014 Championship

The 2014 Galway County Adult Track and Field championships will take place on the dates below.
The venue is the Regional Sports Centre track in Dangan at the NUI Galway grounds.

Day One - Sunday 29 June
Time: 1.30pm onwards
Events: 200m, Long Jump, Shot Putt, Discus, 800m, Weight for Distance (only Seniors and Masters), 4x100m relay, 3000m women/5000m men

Day Two - Thursday 10th July
Time: 7pm onwards

Galway 5k Series Results - Race 4 Claregalway

Claregalway was host to tonight’s event which was the 4th in the Galway 5k series.
This course was a little testing as with a hill to start and a hill at approx. 4km, and with weather conditions poor it was a test but none the less as we've seen in the past few weeks this didn't deter the crowds!!

The turnout was great tonight with 574 participants taking part and once again Galway City Harriers were well represented in the top 10 with 7 out of the 10 top spots (with 8 in the top 11)!!!

National League Championships Sunday 18th May

Galway teams will once again participate this year in the Premier Division of the  AAI National League Track and Field event, the major competition for Track and Field athletes.

Galway City Harriers have entered a mens team and Galway County have a womens teams.
The event will take place at the Sligo IT complex next Sunday 18th May in the opening round of the League.

Gary Thornton performance at Highgate Harriers night of 10k PBs

Well done to Gary Thornton who was 8th in Race 5 at the Highgate Harriers Night of the 10,000m PBs on Saturday 10th May.

Gary ran a fantastic time of 30:02:25 and was just over half a second ahead of Neil Burton of Tipton Harriers who was 3rd in the 2013 Streets of Galway Race.

Galway 5k Series Race 2: Loughrea

This week Loughrea play host to the Galway 5k Series Race at 8pm sharp!

If you have yet to collect your race pack you can do so at Gaelscoil Riabhach just off the Gort Road tonight before the race.
For those familiar with the 5k Series, the route this year is the same as last year.

Remember to car pool where possible as parking is limited around the Gaelscoil.

AND Don’t forget to bring your chip and race number!

Galway 5k Series starts Tuesday 29th April

About the race series

The County Galway 5km series is an initiative of the Galway Athletic Clubs. Over 6 Tuesday nights, a 5km race is organised by one of the athletic clubs across the county.
One race number covers the entire series.
No prizes are awarded, but anyone who completes 4 of the 6 races gets a souvenir race t-shirt.

After the last race, a social night is organised by the final host club.

All proceeds of the 5k series goes to fund juvenile and adult athletics in Galway.

Please car pool to venues - parking is strictly limited at all venues!


Boston Marathon 2014

The Boston marathon 2014 proved to be a testing course but 5 tough Galway City Harriers were up to the challenge and all came home over the line having battled the downhill course and in higher than predicted temperatures.

Gerry Carty was first home in 2:56:24. This was a new PB for Gerry so well done on holding out to go Sub 3 and take home a new personal best.

Next was Sean Hanley in 3:09:42 and. Lawrence Kelly came home in 3:18:14 which was such a great achievement.

Michael Greene who won Gold in the 2013 Dublin Marathon crossed the line in 3:30:30.
