National Cross Country Champs to be held in Tuam Jan 22nd 2017

Galway hosts a major National cross country championships later this month -

The Irish Life Health sponsored National Juvenile Inter Club Cross Country Relays and Intermediate Cross Country championships are being held in Tuam's Palace Grounds on Sunday  22nd January 2017 from 11.30 am
 

The Intermediate Men run 8km, and the Ladies 5km
Club and County teams can enter. Club teams -  8 run and first four score 
 

There are also National Juvenile Inter Club relays on first , 4 by *500m relays, U12 and U14 ( 4 run )

Report from Intervarsity All Irelands April 2016

Good weekend for NUIG in the intervarsity All Irelands in April, some promising results within the sprint group.
100m:
Cormac Lynch made a welcome return to competitive athletics running 11.11. Cormac will be training with our group next year.
Owen Scully made a sensational return to outdoor competition running 11.35, not bad for a 400m runner!
200m:
Cormac & Owen both done the double and ran 22.82 and 23.65 respectively.
400m (Crazy hard wind for heats so times prob a lot better)

AAI National 10K Championships

The AAI National 10k is on Sunday 10th April in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. GCH athletes performed extremely well last year (report here), with three teams winning silver medals and several gold medal winners. We hope repeat and improved performances for this year.

GCH at 2016 Kinvara R&R Half and 10k

A massive congrats to all who took part in the Kinvarra Rock and Road Half Marathon and 10k Races earlier this month.

GCH were dominant in the field and even more dominant on the podium despite windy conditions on the undulating course.
Must be all that winter training paying off!!!

In the Men’s 10k Race, the 2016 is looking good already for Owen Byrne who came 2nd in 35.05.

In the Women’s 10k Race Siobhan Egan is looking fresh after her Cross Country team win taking 2nd place also in 39.38.

Galway Senior Men's & Ladies Teams take XC Gold

It was a great weekend for Galway, with the Inter County Cross Country Gold Cups coming back to Galway for the first time in 30 years!!! For the first time in 42 years the XC Champs were held in Galway so what better place to collect a win than on home turf!!

GCh were proud to be represented in the Captain Seat for both the Men’s and Women’s Teams, with Gerry Carty heading up the Men’s side and Siobhan Egan heading up the Ladies team.

All-Ireland XC Inter-County Championships Tuam Feb 14th

Tuam and County Galway are all set to host the All Ireland Cross Country Inter-County Championships for the firsts time in 42 years this Sunday February 14th. With a home advantage the Galway Team Manager Ian Egan is hoping the Tribes can claim it's first medal in 30 years at the event.

January Road Races Round Up

TUAM 8K

It was a great start to the yar for GCH with the first big local race of the year taking place in Tuam on January 17th. The Tuam 8k is renowned and always gathers a big crowd and a competitive field. This year was no differenct with GCH taking a hattrick in the mens.

Gay Thorton took first place in 24.22, follwoed by Matt Bidwell in second in 25.54 and in thrid came Michael O'Connor in 27.10.
