News for senior members and athletes
G.C.H. will host the final race of the Galway 5 km Series on Tuesday 28th May, at 8:00pm, at the NUIG sports grounds in Dangan. Registration will take place at the Sports Pavilion in Dangan. Changing facilities will also be available at the Sports Pavilion.
Gary Thornton won the British Universities 10k on the track last weekend in a superb time of 29:30.47s. This represents a personal best performance for Gary, who is now based in London and was competing for St. Mary’s.

If you’re based in the west and you’re looking for opportunities to compete in Track & Field on a regular basis than we have great news for you.
The Galway Co. Board has restructured it’s Senior Track & Field Championships and has made it into a 3 day open series commencing on Thursday May 10th. This is an excellent opportunity for some low-key early season competition.
Entries are invited from all athletes aged 16 and over. Athletes from outside Galway are strongly encouraged and very welcome. Masters category also.
For the second month in succession David Gillick has been nominated for European Athlete of Month.
This month sees David been honoured for his sensational 400m victory in the European Indoor Championships last March. That performance was the highest scoring male event of the competition according to the IAAF scoring tables.
Sunday April 1st saw the 37th running of the Kilmurry Ibrickane/North Clare Michael Egan memorial 4 mile road race in Quilty, Co. Clare. Gerry Ryan (G.C.H.) won the race in a time of 19:42 from Seamus Power (Kilmurray/Ibk) in 20:06.
G.C.H.'s Martin McEvilly won his category in 24:49 while clubmate Liam Morris made a good return to racing. In the women's race, which was won by Veronica Colleran of Ennis Track, G.C.H. runners Hannah Kelly and Bernie Kelly collected prizes in their categories.
Michael O'Connor of G.C.H. won the 2007 Omagh Half Marathon on Saturday last, in a record time of 1:06:29. Stephen Duncan of Omagh was 2nd in 1:08:21. This years race also incorporated the Northern Ireland Half Marathon championships, which saw many of the top Northern Ireland runners compete and almost 600 complete the race.
Michael was joined in Omagh by clubmates Gearoid Quinn and Pat O'Dwyer, who both also had excellent runs, finishing in 1:23:21 and 1:24:20 respectively.
