Orla & Paul Win Cross-Country Titles

Orla Ni Mhuircheartaigh, GCH, and Paul McNamara, Athenry, were the Senior winners at the Connaught Cross Country Championships held earlier today. The venue was Dartfield Horse Museum Park, Loughrea and the recent persistent rain meant a tough muddy cross-country course and very difficult conditions underfoot for the athletes.

GCH Athletes Gear Up for Belfast

GCH have a number of athletes travelling to Belfast for the Woodie’s DIY Irish Indoor Championships, which take place in the Odyssey Arena on Sat 26th and Sun 27th Jan 2008. The Odyssey hosts Ireland's only indoor hydraulic 200-metre running track and full details of the event can be found at Irish Indoor Athletics Championships

Fit4Life Members Help GCH to Team Silver in Tuam

GCH Women's team claimed Silver in the Tuam 8k, just behind winners Mayo AC. The placings of the club's first four athletes were counted for the team prizes. New members Carmel Brannigan and Rochelle Howell, who have recently joined GCH via the Fit4Life programme, were the 2nd and 4th GCH women home. Adrienne Walsh, making a welcome return to road racing, was the 3rd scorer. The team was led home by Regina Casey. The 1st four were closely followed by Brenda Gannon and Aine Harvey. Carmel and Adrienne also claimed 1st prizes in their categories with times of 35:44 and 39:29 respectively.

GCH Athletes' First Competitive Action of 2008

Many of GCH's Senior athletes were in action this weekend, in their first competitive outings of 2008.

At the AAI Indoor Games in Nenagh on Sunday, Sean Breathnach had a good day, winning the Shot Putt with a throw of 15.76. Igor Muntean jumped 1:95 for 2nd in the high jump behind Barry Pender who cleared 2.11 on the final attempt. Sprinters Danny Moore and Gregor Toohey also competed in the highly competitive 60m which had very large fields entered in both the Men's and Women's events.

G.C.H. Athletes at Intercounties in the Curragh

G.C.H. had six athletes competing today in the Woodies DIY Intercounties Cross-Country Championships of Ireland. This is one of the main and most competitive events of the Irish winter athletics calendar. This year, it also serves as the trials for the European Cross-Country Championships to be held in Spain on December 9th.
