The 30th running of the British & Irish Masters Cross Country International races took place on Saturday last in Derry. Two of our stalwart GCH athletes ,Christine Kennedy (M60 women) and Martin McEvilly (M65 men)represented Ireland at the event. The Masters womens race and the Masters over 65 race was run over 6k, consisting of three laps of a 2k course. It was a fast race, quite muddy on parts of the course and included a gradual climb.

Sligo and Longford were the venues for the first two races in the Connaught Senior League Cross Country, held over the past two weekends. First race up was Sligo, where the GCH men endured eight laps of an up and down one thousand metre course. The team certainly got off to a great start in the League with Eanna Folan and James Frizzell filling first and third places, while running strongly in behind were Michael Kerrin, Niall Murphy and Neil Keane. The Womens 4k race was won by Adrianna Melia of Longford AC. GCH athlete Aoife King finished a credible second in the Junior women's 4k.
There were fine performances all round from GCH athletes on Sunday last at the AAI Open Cross Country Races and Masters Trials , held at the National Sports Campus, Abbottstown in Dublin. On an honest course, underfoot conditions were quite good despite the weather in the days beforehand, making it conducive to good cross country running. Eleven athletes represented the club in the various races.
