Well done to all our athletes who competed at the recent County Cross Country Championships at the Palace Grounds in Tuam (Oct.6th). Great competition over a tough course with GCH athletes Kathryn Casserly and John Moroney winning their respective races and taking the Senior titles. Kathryn Casserly of GCH powered her way to victory in the combined Women’s 4000m race, running from the front all the way, to take a well-deserved victory. Clubmate Jane Ann Meehan had a great run to claim the second senior women's place.

There were quite a number of GCH competing over the weekend of the 5th/6th October. If any GCH members are racing anywhere/have any results do let us know.
At the Irish ¾ Marathon in Longwood, County Meath, Paul Keane finished in a fine time of 2 hrs 10 minutes 38 seconds while Barbara Bergin posted 1.45.59 at the Tarmonbarry Half Marathon in County Roscommon.
Below is the link to the provisional entry list for the National Marathon Championships 2019 (held in conjunction with the Dublin Marathon). Any club athlete who wishes to be considered in the National Championships needs to ensure they are on the list. If you are not on the list - there is an email address at the end of the list to contact - you need to send them your details including date of birth, your AAI registration number AND also your Confirmation/Order number which you would have received from Dublin marathon.
Leg 1 of the Connaught Senior/Master League is this Sunday 13th October in Moyne Community School, Longford. Entries for Leg 1 need to be submitted this Tuesday evening 8th October. Anyone who would like to compete contact club secretary ASAP for entry to this weekends’ races. Individual categories are Novice, Senior and Master o40 (master begins at o40 for Connaught League), master o65. Team categories are Senior and Master (o40). You must remain in your chosen individual and team category for all three races.
Congratulations to GCH sprinter Alex Lee who has been selected by Paralympics Ireland for the Irish team to compete at the World Para Athletics Championships. Alex will compete in the 100m and 200m at the Championships which take place from 7th - 15th of November in Dubai. Tremendous achievement for Alex who only began running and competing in 2018 ! His dedication and hard work is an inspiration to many. Deserving reward for an equally deserving athlete. Well done to all of Alex's back up and support crew, including coach Brendan Glynn and all of Alex's sprint mates!
Berlin Marathon. Well done to our GCH athletes who ran the Berlin Marathon last weekend. An impressive 2:19:06 from Ciaran Faherty who placed 65th overall. Martin Kearney finished second in his age category in a terrific 2:59:10, Malachy Wolohan ran 3:14:58, Dave Keaney 2:53:15, Karen Quirke 3:49:36, Leonor Rodriguez 4:14:02. Well done all!
Loughrea 10k. In Loughrea, first GCH male was Paul Keane in 38.19 while first GCH female was Mary Kealy.
Castlegar AC Open Cross Country (incorporating County Novice championships). Castlegar AC hosted a gala open cross-country event for Juvenile and Adults ages on Saturday 21st September, at Merlin Woods City Park, Doughiska. GCH athletes were well represented in the 4k and 6k races as well as the mixed relay event.
The European Masters Track and Field competition concluded on September 15th after 12 days of competition in Venice, Italy. A belated congratulations to GCH sprinter Jim Phelan, pictured below with his relay medals along with sprint coach Brendan Glynn. Jim had a fantastic week of competition. After two terrific performances in the qualifying rounds Jim made the 400m o45 individual final where he placed a credible fifth in a new personal best of 53.23 seconds!
Westport festival of Athletics. At the Westport 10k, Laura Shaughnessy finished first female in 35.49 with Regina Casey third in 37.09. Along with Adrienne Walsh (second o65) the GCH women took the second team prize. The previous evening the four-man GCH squad of James Frizzell, Barry Murphy, Jack Maher and Keith Fallon won the 4 X 1 Mile Relay event held at the Westport track.
Rathoath Half Marathon.Christine Kennedy posted a terrific time of 1 hr 30mins 45 secs at the Rathoath half marathon in County Meath. (2nd o50).

Saturday 24th August. Claregalway 10k, 6pm. Late Entries (taken up to 5.30pm) at the Claregalway Community Centre.
Saturday 31st August. Caltra AC 5k, 11am. (incorporating County 5k Championships). Registration from 9.30am in Caltra Community Centre on the day.
