Well, Did You Guess Your Time?

[acidfree:6049 title=" " rotate=right size=130 align=right]Dave Huane would like to take this opportunity to again thank all those from GCH and indeed county Galway who travelled to take part in his "guess your own time" race recently in Ballindine.

By all accounts, a good night was had by all - the "best guesser" title on the local running scene for 2011 goes to Tuam AC's Brendan Monaghan, who remarkably predicted that he would cover this 4 mile course in exactly 26m 15s. Great prediction... and running!

[acidfree:6046 title=" " rotate=right size=120 align=right]The evening came wet in the end but not before most if not all runners had crossed the finishing line in Dangan earlier this evening. This week it was GCH's turn to play host to the 5K series with Eamon O'Donnell serving as race-director again and putting all his experience of course layout and design into tweaking last year's single-loop circuit to produce another master-piece of "mixed terrain" running off a very restricted route.

[acidfree:6046 title=" " rotate=right size=150 align=right]It was the turn of the Clare River Harriers club to host this week's leg of the Galway 5K series, and once more, much credit is owed to Andrew Talbot and crew for putting on such a fine event over a race-circuit that was reversed from last year.

Congratulations again to both Matthew Bidwell and Regina Casey for continuing their clean sweep at the front of respective male and female fields and making it 4 from 4.

Cold and Damp in Craughwell!

[acidfree:6046 title=" " rotate=right size=150 align=right]Driving out from Galway city earlier this evening, it looked as if we were odds on to have a repeat of the wettest 5K series race I can remember to date - Claregalway 2010. However, despite some heavy showers prior to the starting gun, the weather cleared up somewhat to ensure that the race could be run in reasonable weather conditions.

Again, much thanks is owed to all in Craughwell AC for hosting another great race on the local athletics calendar.

[acidfree:5853 align=right size=100 title=""]The final leg in the C+C Cellular Mayo AC road-race league for 2010 went to the line today in a wintry Westport, with the re-scheduled Westport 5K. While a GCH contingent had travelled for the orginal date before Christmas when the race had to be postponed, there were only 2 GCH athletes in the field of 131 today - both Eddie Costello and Jean O'Connor gave a good run of it nonetheless.
