[acidfree:8446 title=" " align=right size=120]The weather gods did not know what to do this summer solstice for the 6th running of the Annaghdown 10k road-race which was a good marker for mid-summer’s night once again. Previous editions of the event have been visited by either torrential downpours or glorious sunshine. This year however, after a day of continuous rain in Galway, the evening remarkably chose to remain dry and humid with only a light breeze to worry competitors.

She also supplies a link away to a Facebook page containing photos of some GCH athletes in action and there is a small number of photos uploaded to our own photo-gallery at:
Once again, well done to all involved!
This year’s Connemara Marathon events (Ultra-marathon, Marathon and Half Marathon) saw over 3,000 runners take to the hills in beautiful spring sunshine. Galway City Harriers were well represented with runners in both the Marathon and Half Marathon.
[acidfree:8264 title=" " align=right size=275]GCH's Jane Walsh has compiled the following race-report from last Sunday's Craughwell 10 mile road-race. To echo her sentiments, many thanks to all at Craughwell AC for serving up another cracking road-race. Well done to all participants and a special congratulations to GCH athletes throughout the field for performing with such distinction. Take it away Jane...
The morning of this year’s Craughwell 10 dawned in what were absolutely perfect running conditions, with a clear sky, lots of sunshine and little or no wind. No excuses then....
[acidfree:1703 title=" " size=90 align=right]A healthy number of GCH athletes enjoyed a great day's racing at Tuam on Sunday last. Tuam AC have been very innovative with course layout over the past couple of years for their leg of the Galway 5K series, but they surpassed themselves this time around with their newly configured one-lap 8K circuit for their own annual road-race.
[acidfree:8191 size=250 align=right title=""]Paul will be back running in Galway tommorrow, to finish his amazing 1000 mile run around Ireland in December in aid of On The Road Again (OTRA). Yesterday he finished in Castlebar with 915 miles done and ran another 40 miles today. He had a photocall with An Taoiseach in Castlebar (from http://www.ontheroadagain.ie/.) Paul will be in Renmore at 3pm tomorrow, with a tough 45 miles to go, hopefully to finish by around 8pm. Any Harriers support would be great to help Paul complete his challenge.

An occasional series - the personal musings of a novice runner.
If you are one of those compulsive users of running calculators, you may be interested to note that Greg McMillan has given his web-site a fresh lick of paint for 2011 including his (in)famous McMillan running calculator - see following link: McMillan Calculator
I don't visit this site very regularly now, so apologies if this is all old hat to some.

There are many accessible races around the half-marathon distance at this time of year which serve as suitable tune-ups for an autumn marathon. As such, choosing the 15KM Warrior's Run in Strandhill, Co. Sligo (part of the long running Warrior's Festival)
may seem a strange option for such a purpose. However, many athletes do actually run this part-road/part mountain race for the exact purpose of a pre-marathon workout and this year, I too was among that number.
[acidfree:6524 align=right size=75 title=""]GCH's Paul Fallon has been in touch to remind us again about the third annual Oughterard 10K (Mick Molloy Classic) road-race scheduled for this coming Sunday (21st August).
Full details are available on the GCH events calendar at: Oughterard-10K
[acidfree:6361 title=" " align=right size=300]The Headford 8K is another fine local road-race that has suffered the slings and arrows of outrageous weather conditions over the years. On Saturday last however, the weather gods smiled favourably on the 2011 race and a fine evening's racing was enjoyed by the large field which turned out, numbering among them a strong GCH contingent.
Well done to top 10 GCH male finishers Matt, Owen, Barry, Gerry and Fintan. Full race results are attached below compliments of official race timing supplier Red Tag Timing.
