On a balmy Tuesday night in Dangan the first night of the county track and field championships doubled as round 5 of the GCH club challenge. 13 GCH athletes toed the line in the 3000 and 5000m races. At the end of the night Majella Ní Chríocháin and Martin Kearney maintained their positions at the top of the table albeit with reduced leads.
68 GCHers have now scored in the club challenge. Next up is the National Half Marathon in Dublin at the beginning of August.
The county senior outdoors track and field championship sees leg 5 of the club challenge. The events that make up this leg are as follows:
- 7:45pm - 3000m Women
- 8:15pm - 5000m Men
There will be no GCH track training this Tuesday evening to facilitate the county championships so why not use the 3000m/5000m as your track session and gain some valuable points in the club challenge at the same time.

Keith had a great run and was 5th in the1500m finishing strong after a few weeks nursing an injury and even managed a 50 sec split in the last 400m.
Last weekend’s All Ireland championships in the Athlone Indoor Arena saw some fantastic medal winning performances from Galway City Harriers AC with top billing going to rising young middle distance star Keith Fallon who took gold medals in both the Under 23 800m- in a time of 1.56, and in the 1500m - in 4 minutes flat . Keith took the lead in both races early on, and won from the front in a very impressive display of middle distance running.
