Galway's adult athletes convened a productive get-together last year which resulted in, amongst other things, the highly successful May 5k Series.
It is felt around the county that it would be worthwhile to stage a repeat of this meeting which will give adults involved in athletics in Galway the opportunity to discuss the development of our sport in County Galway.

I started running in 1971 at the age of eleven with St. Johnston AC. The local club had just been founded and everybody else was joining.
I ran both track and cross-country events. Sports days were big in Donegal at that time and during the summer there would usually be a sports somewhere in the county every Sunday. I was mostly mid-pack in competition but I got a few podium finishes later on including a silver in the Ulster U-17 3000m. I also qualified to represent Ulster in the O'Duffy cup in 1978.
Gary Thornton has been running with Galway City Harriers since the mid 1990s. His first run was a city schools cross-country race "just to get a half day" but when he came second PJ and Ollie invited him to join the juvenile section.
