Last weekend’s All Ireland championships in the Athlone Indoor Arena saw some fantastic medal winning performances from Galway City Harriers AC with top billing going to rising young middle distance star Keith Fallon who took gold medals in both the Under 23 800m- in a time of 1.56, and in the 1500m - in 4 minutes flat . Keith took the lead in both races early on, and won from the front in a very impressive display of middle distance running.

The First round of National League starts tomorrow. GCH men’s team is competing the Premier division. This is the pinnacle of domestic team track & field competition. The team preformed really well last year, making the final and coming a very respectable 6th.
This year, the team is hoping to do better. All our younger athletes are a year older, stronger and wiser. Our elite seniors are every bit as elite and we also have a lot of youth coming into team to strengthen it.
[acidfree:8818 align=right size=250 title=""]Jane Walsh has filed the following race-report from the Tuam 8K last Sunday. On a bitterly cold day, there was a great GCH turnout among the 552 finishers. Official results as per Tuam 8K - 2013 with a Facebook photo-set available via the following link. Well done all. Take it away Jane...
The morning of this year’s Tuam 8K dawned bright and very cold with temperatures no higher than 2 or 3 degrees and a chill wind. This did not deter over 500 runners from lining up for what is fast becoming one of the most popular events early in the year.
A large contingent of over 50 runners from GCH lined up at the start, with our Senior Men hoping to retain the Men’s Team Cup (particularly seeing as it was presently, em, AWOL). A great gang from our Fit4Life group also participated, with many looking for PBs and, for some, it was their first ever race!
[acidfree:8659 align=right size=150 title=""]Many congratulations to all GCH participants (both current and former members) who completed this year's Dublin marathon and who we list below in order of bib-number.
Finish-times (including 10K, half and 20M splits) are available via the official Dublin marathon web-site results page or via the tracker application linked here. Race-videos have also been uploaded to the official web-site as per usual.

Well done to all the Harriers who made the trip. Another impressive medal haul for the club by all accounts and great to read that the evergreens remain just that!
A small but determined group of GCH athletes made its way up to Tullamore Harriers stadium this past Sunday for the National Masters Track & Field Championships.
The Final of the National League took place on Sunday in Tullamore. Everywhere you looked, there was Olympians and International Athletes and amongst them all was the Galway City Harriers Mens team competing in the Premier Final.
This is GCH's first year in the the premier, making the final was an amazing achievement but we were determined to prove we desreved to be there and we done just that.

By all accounts, a record turn-out of close to 300 entrants took to the roads around Headford for this now well established mid-summer road-race. A tough but fair course saw some great racing again this year with mere seconds seperating the top 3 finishers and some close battles throughout the rest of the field. GCH had a good representation on the night closing out 4 of the top 10 places overall. Club member John Devlin gave us our starter's orders and then jumped into the race himself to finish strongly. All in all, another great night of road-racing on the local scene.
Last night saw Day 1 of the Galway Track & Field Competition. It was a fun night, I know I certainly enjoyed myself.
Track & Field is for everyone. Some people seem to be reluctant to give it a go and when questioned the answer is generally along the line " Oh I'm not good enough" or "that's only for elites and young speedsters"
Well I'd like to put it out there that Track & Field, along with all running is something that can be enjoyed by everyone! Don't be afraid to come out and give different events a go!
The Junior & U23 All Ireland track and field Championships were held today in Tullamore. GCH had a very succesful day and it's great to see such talent coming through at this level.
We had a double podium finish in the Junior 400m Hurdles. Evan Maguire ran a incredibly fast time finishing 2nd. Anthony Hebron, Evans training partner showed true grit and determination finishing 3rd. Great to see Anthony coming back after completing his Leaving Cert.
