Training for March 2014

With the cross country and indoor season just about over, and the days getting longer, it is time to start thinking towards the summer.

There were some great performances by Galway's endurance athletes from: Nicola Duncan’s exploits on the roads; Gary Thortons's national silver medal, and Keith Fallons U23 indoor titles to mention a few.

Now is the time to put in some hard work if you want to race well this summer, so it is the time to think about maybe stepping training up by 5%. Maybe think about stretching the Sunday run by a mile or two and doing the extra rep.

Well done to everyone who has taken part in the challenge to date.

Remember the next event is the Craughwell 10 mile in 23rd March.

There have been some slight changes to the scoring system.  These changes make showing up a lot more valuable than not showing up and rewards everyone who does.
Thanks to Vincent Jordan for these suggestions.

• Points are scored as follows:
- 30 for the 1st GCH finisher, 29 for the 2nd, 28 for the 3rd, all the way down to the 20th GCH finisher who gets 11 point.  All subsequent GCH finishers will receive 10 points.
