Galway Meet and Train members had a very successful day in Connemara yesterday. Eileen Donohue took part in the Full Marathon while Bridie Folliard, Maire Kelly, Mary McCann, Hilda Mc Grath, Pauline O'Halloran, Adrienne Walsh and others completed the Half Marathon.

Other Meet and Train members, Monenna Fitzgerald and Cora Grimes went further afield for their Half Marathons recently, competing in Prague and Omagh, respectively. Well done to all!

Open Meeting for Adult Athletics in Galway

Date: Wednesday, March 7th, 8:30pm
Location: The Quality Hotel in Oranmore.

Galway's adult athletes convened a productive get-together last year which resulted in, amongst other things, the highly successful May 5k Series.

It is felt around the county that it would be worthwhile to stage a repeat of this meeting which will give adults involved in athletics in Galway the opportunity to discuss the development of our sport in County Galway.

I have been approached by James O'Donnell, a fully qualified fitness trainer with a view to setting up a strength and conditioning class for the Meet and Train runners. This would be in addition to our regular Monday and Thursday night runs.It would probably be in the gym in Mervue and would cost about 50 euro for 5-6 sessions. If anyone is interested, please contact me on 086-8036044 or email me at maire.k@gmail.com. Meanwhile the group welcomes new (and lapsed!)runners at Renmore Church at 7 o'clock on Monday and Thurs.

View from the back of the pack!

Having completed the first three 5k races in the Series, I just want to share my views on the events. Although I run regularly at distances from 5k to marathons, I do not class myself as a fast runner, a fact borne out by these 5k events!

Nevertheless, it is a great feeling to complete these runs with such a wide and varied field of runners. This is what these Tues. nights runs are all about, taking part at your own pace and getting to the finish line in one piece. The Galway Meet and Train group has been well represented in the series, with Dolores Foley, Bridie Folliard, Geraldine Fegan, Maire Kelly, Pearl McDonagh, Pauline O'Halloran and Lorraine McStay all taking part. We hope to have an even bigger contingent out for the final night in Dangan on May 30th.
