GCH athletes were in tremendous form at this year’s National Cross Country Championships which was held in Abbotstown today. The U20 team consisting of Eanna Folan (13th) , James Frizzel (15th), Thomas McStay (16th) , Joe Tannian ( 27th), Aaron Brennan (42nd) and Michael Healy (88th) produced a magnificent team effort to take the National title. As National U20 Champions the team has now qualified to represent Ireland at the European Cross Country Championships to be held in Portugal.

The 2018 County Indoor Championships take place on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th January at Athlone Institute of Technology. Saturday’s competition will include events for athletes from U8 to U12 and Sunday will cater for the U13 – U19 age groups.
This Competition is an ideal event for beginners and for athletes of all levels of ability.
If interested please add your child’s name to the Entry Sheets in the Shed at Training from this weekend. The closing date for entry is Sunday 17th December 2017.
The Connacht Cross Country (Uneven ages) took place at Moyne Community School in Longford yesterday in bright sunny conditions. Well done to all the GCH athletes who travelled many kilometres to participate.
The day kicked off with the U11 Girls who competed over a 1,500m distance. First home for the U11 team was Jessica Kay in 40th place and she was quickly followed by Caitlin Podmore in 41st , Jane Fahy 51st and Jodie Quirke in 57th position. In the U11 Boys race Shane Meagher ran a fine race to finish 17th, Richard McGrath 20th and Ronan Duggan finished in 52nd position.
Many of our young juveniles travelled to Sligo for the Even Ages Cross Country and there were many notable performances on the day. Mia Craugwell continued her good form and finished in 4th place in the Girls U12 race over 2,000m distance. Clodagh Quirke also ran a fine race to finish in 43rd position. Richard McGrath was our only U12 boy in action on the day and he had a strong run to finish in 26th position.
The Connacht Championships take place on Sunday 29th October. Many of our coaches and athletes will be travelling to this event so there will be no training in Dangan on the 29th for the younger ages ( age 7 - 12).
The older sprint group will train as normal.

The Connaught Senior League Cross Country and Connaught Primary Schools Cross Country competitions, scheduled for tomorrw - Saturday 21st October in Roscommon - are now cancelled due to the imminent storm.
This event will be rescheduled.
The Connacht Cross Country Championships for Even Ages take place in Calry, Hazelwood, Sligo on Sunday 29th October. Start time is 12 O'Clock. Please see details of the events below. Anyone interested in competing should sign up on the Entry sheets in the Shed before Friday 20th September. This event is open to all club members in the relevant age groups. The Galway Cross Country Championships for uneven ages ( U9 to U19) took place in the beautiful surroundings of Kilcornan Estate yesterday. Conditions were perfect for Cross country running and a lot of preparatory work was undertaken by Brian Bruton and his team on Saturday afternoon. Once again thank you to Iain Shaw and the results team for all their work on the day.
There will be no Juvenile training in Dangan for U8s to U12s on Sunday 8th October due to Day 2 of the County Cross Country Championships which take place at Kilcornan Estate, Clarinbridge at 1 O' Clock. Many of our young athletes from U9 to U19 will be participating and their coaches will be attending the event.
The Older Sprint Group from U13 upwards will train as normal in Dangan.
The 2017 Even Ages Cross Country took place at the Palace Grounds in Tuam yesterday. Well done to Tuam AC for all their work preparing an excellent course and to South Galway AC and Iain Shaw for co-ordinating the entries and results for over 270 athletes.
