GCH had a good day on Sunday in Cavan at the National Juvenile and Novice Cross-Country Championships.
Colm Hughes had a great race to win gold in the U13 Boys 1200m race, beating the best of the country's young distance athletes. Colm also won gold at U12 last year. Alana Lally was 2nd in the Girls U13 1000m race. Maebh Brannigan, Roisin Dobey, Katie Carter, Laura Ann Costello and Sorcha Minihan combined with Alana to score highly up the 145 strong field and win the GCH team the silver team medals also.
Galway City Harriers had another good day at the Connaught cross-country U11-U19 in Boyle at the weekend. The club captured 2 team titles, 2 individual titles and 5 teams qualified for the All-Irelands in Ballyhaise on Dec 7th. The club had 2 competitors in the under 11 girls race with Sinead Miniham finishing 27th & Catherine Connaire 31st.
Winter arrived in Swinford just in time to greet the juvenile athletes for the Connacht cross-country. GCH athletes coped well with the poor conditions on a testing course. Swinford AC did a great job with the organising & there was tea, coffee & scones to help thaw out the weary souls. Because of the bank holiday weekend we fielded weaker teams in some age groups & incomplete teams in others.
