2018 Streets of Galway 8km Important Race Information
GALWAY CLINIC Streets of Galway 8KM
We would like to welcome you to the Streets of Galway 8km road race for 2018, sponsored by the Galway Clinic. This is the 33rd edition of the famous Streets of Galway 8km road race, which is organised by Galway City Harriers AC, the long established athletics club in Galway. The race is 8km in distance and is approved by AAI.
Race entry is available on Active.com until noon on the 8th of August unless the race sells out before then.
REGISTRATION /NUMBER COLLECTION
Your registration details with race number will be emailed to you on Wednesday 8th August.
Please follow the link within the email to find your race number and bring this with you along with your printout email of registration confirmation details when collecting your race pack (which includes a fantastic technical t shirt, number with timing chip) at Race HQ, The Claddagh Hall, South Park, Salthill, Galway.

Unless you have specific arrangements with an associated charity or other organisation, individual race pack collection times are as follows this year:
2pm - 8pm on Friday 10th August 2018
9am - 4pm on Saturday 11th August 2018 (race day)
Please follow marshal’s instructions for parking when picking numbers.
FRIDAY : You can park along Grattan Road in front of South Park or in the Car Park beside Claddagh Hall (NB access on Friday only 40 spaces).
SATURDAY : NO PARKING available at Claddagh Hall or Grattan Road entrance to South Park. This is due to race set up areas and necessary restrictions at the end of race route.
The closest car parks are those at Jurys Inn Galway and Hynes Yard multi story on Merchants Road. Please also bear in mind these parking restrictions on the evening of the race and plan your journey in advance.
The race starts at 7pm sharp on the evening of Saturday 11th August 2018, with the start line located at the Galway Technical Institute, Fr. Griffin Road, Galway.
The race routes through Galway City, Salthill and the Claddagh areas of Galway.
Water station - there is a water stop at 5km mark which is at Pearse Stadium.
Finish – the finish is in South Park just off Grattan Road where there is water, drinks and food available here for all as part of your race entry.

Please be at the start line by 6.40pm to ensure you are in position.
Pacers will run to assist runners who wish to aim for a particular time: 35 minutes, 40 minutes, 45 minutes, 50 minutes and 55 minutes. Pacers will be easily visible at the start with balloons marking their target time.
Changing/shower facilities will be available at the start/finish area in the Fr. Griffin's club house and West United changing rooms. There is no onsite storage for personal possessions and any items are left at your own risk. Further toilet facilities will also be provided at the start and finish in the area around race headquarters.
There will be post race refreshments in the race marquee located at the finish line. The prize giving will be in the Claddagh Hall from 8.30pm. There are prizes for individual runners and teams. Later in the evening many race goers enjoy a post race celebration in Monroe’s Tavern which is a few minutes’ walk from the finish line.
The race hashtag is #streetsofgalway and we invite you to share your photos from training and of the race day. After the race we will announce 2 winning photo's using the # and each will win a €50 voucher from Elverys sports.
The following points are very important and we ask you make a note of them:
You should be in good health to complete the race
Take enough food and water on in advance of the race (2 hours)
Take water before start and at the water station
Medical assistance: we have Civil Defence, ambulances, and doctors available to assist you if you are in difficulty, on the route or at the start or finish.
Marshals and Gardai are in attendance to assist the race but it is your responsibility to be aware of your surroundings, other runners, and to know the route.
The Streets is an Athletics Ireland permitted road race ran under the Associations rules.
A rolling road closure will be in operation. Marshals/Garda instructions must be followed by all participants.
Buggies, push chairs, bikes, wheeled or mechanically propelled vehicles are not allowed. The race organisers will NOT ALLOW these on the course and take NO RESPONSIBILITY for any such that attempt to progress the route using these therefore we ask you NOT to PARTAKE with any of these.
Runners are not permitted to run with headphones This is to ensure that you are aware of what is going on around you, aware of other runners and can clearly hear any instructions from the Garda or race officials when out on the course.
No Under 16s are allowed race.
No refunds available as race costs are incurred. Transfers by a participant to a friend can be arranged for a small fee on Active.com.
No participant may offend or abuse volunteers, marshals or Gardai.
Participants must be on their best behaviour at the start line area and note that the Claddagh residents kindly allow to us the area for race start and finish.
These rules restrictions are necessary for insurance, medical and safety reasons, and follow road race permit and race safety requirements set by relevant authorities which we are obliged to obey.
