Another instalment of the GCH Dublin Marathon story for 2017 , thanks to Culan O Meara for another great piece of writing on his superb run this year.. 'Where to start? The emotion of the day, the crowds, the amazing support from GCH along the route and the afterglow! It still makes me smile. The best running experience of my career was a long time in the making, both physically and mentally. From running laps of the town as 'training' back in school in the 80's and 90's, doing triathlons with Galway Tri, the cross-country outings and the Cathedral runs.

Our second instalment of the GCH marathon story from 2017, via Jan Van den Bergh ! read on for more...

My marathon story starts in May 2016. After years of dreaming about doing one I finally decide it’s time to give it a go. For the previous 12 years I’d been playing 5 a side football twice a week mixed in with the very odd round the block 6k run. I tell the lads at football that I’m quitting to go and train for a marathon. ‘Are you mad in the head??’ was the most common reaction.

The 30th running of the British & Irish Masters Cross Country International races took place on Saturday last in Derry. Two of our stalwart GCH athletes ,Christine Kennedy (M60 women) and Martin McEvilly (M65 men)represented Ireland at the event. The Masters womens race and the Masters over 65 race was run over 6k, consisting of three laps of a 2k course. It was a fast race, quite muddy on parts of the course and included a gradual climb.
