After a successful and very enjoyable X Country Championships in Longford and Roscommon on 1st & 8th November training resumes for all ages this Sunday. Well done to our many athletes who took on the challenge.
Our young U11s took bronze medals today in Boyle in the toughest of conditions. Isabella Burke won Gold as part of the Galway team. She was closely followed by Aoibhe Joyce, Rachel Fahy and Leana McDonagh. Sean Duggan did well to finish in 33rd position in the boys race.
Event 9 - Gerry Fanan/Autumn Open Cross Country and Event 10 - National Marathon/Dublin City Marathon saw some superb performances by GCH athletes which are detailed in other articles on the website.
Event 8 - Connact Cross Country is still in progress and the Club Challenge will be updated once that is completed.
GCH Juvenile will commence their Indoor Athletic Programme this Friday night (5th November) at 7PM in the Pavillion. The programme best suits 7 to 10 year olds and will run until the end of March. The Programme is games based and the focus is on fun and fitness. With mini circuits, relay shuttle runs and short sprints included it's an action packed fitness class that is ideal for young children of all abilities.
Hope to see you there!
GCH had a great start to the day with a win in the U12 Girls for Emma Moore. The team finished second with strong performances from Rachel Fahy, Gillian McGrath, Eabha Joyce, Isabella Burke and Aoife Dirrane.
Dylan Connolly was very impressive in the boys race to finish 7th leading the Galway team to Silver medals. Luke Dahler ran strongly to finish 30th.
While we in GCH continue to reflect in the afterglow of celebrating the 30th anniversary of our "Streets of Galway" club-race earlier this year, it's worthwhile mentioning that our running neighbours across the county boundary in south Mayo will be marking an even more noteworthy occasion on Sunday 15th November next when Hollymount celebrates the 50th anniversary of it's annual road-race.
Tom Hunt of Mayo AC has written two lovely pieces chronicling some of the history of this event in terms of past male and female winners as follows:
There will be no training for Juveniles on Friday 30th October as the track will be closed in Dangan.
Training for U7-13 is also cancelled on Sunday 1st & 8th November due to the Connacht X Country Championships. Best of luck to all who are competing.

A massive congrats to almost 20 GCHers that took part in the 36th Dublin City Marathon 2015 held on Monday 26th October. It was not the most ideal of conditions for 26.2 miles but it didn’t make much of a difference to our brilliant GCH athletes with many coming home with PB’s and even some new silver wear for their efforts.
Cross Country season is well under way and a big hitter as always is the Gerry Farnan XC. This year marked the 32nd year of the race which is also the trial race for men and women wishing to represent Ireland in next month’s British & Irish Masters CC International, scheduled for Saturday 14th November in Santry.
Galway City Harriers had 3 great performances from athletes Keith Fallon, Michael O’Conner and Martin McEvily.
Keith came in second in U23’s and 13th overall in 27.01.
