The Connacht Championships take place as follows;

9th June          U9 - U13    - Claremorris Athletics Track

16th June        U14 - U19  - Claremorris Athletics Track

 

U9/10/11s is by qualification only from the County Championships in teamed pairs.

U12 - U19s is open entry and athletes can add their name to the Entry Sheets in the shed at Training.

 

The Closing date for U12s/13s is Sunday 27th May.

The Closing date for U14s - U19 is Sunday 3rd June.

GCH leg of 5k Series. Call for volunteers.

The Galway 5k series is now underway and this year Galway City Harriers will be hosting the final leg of the series.The GCH leg will take place on Tuesday the 29th of May at 8.00pm in Kilcornan Estate, Clarinbridge.  Given that it is the last race of the series, t-shirts will be handed out to all eligible participants and there will be tea/coffee, cakes & biscuits afterwards. 

In order to host a successful event, we are looking for volunteers from 6.00pm to help with parking and from 7.00pm to help with marshalling the route and catering.

Galway County ADULT Track & Field Championships Information

Adult –Galway outdoor Track & Field dates (Adults =Senior, Master and Junior only) Dangan.

Pre entry only for all events, ten days in advance approx. No late entries will be accepted. All athletes are reminded that their club membership must be up to date in order to compete. 

Adult Day 1: Thursday 24th May, 7pm. (100m, 400m, 1500m, 100/110H, Shot, Javelin, Long jump, Walk). Entry by 14th May.

GCH at the Connemarathon

Great day out for GCH in the Connemarathon with Tara Whyte the first woman home in the Half Marathon in 1:30:08.  Judith Campbell was the fourth woman over the line in 1:35:10.  

Gearoid Hynes came in 7th in the Ultra Marathon in 5:14:32.   

Also running in the Ultra were Padraic Oates who was delighted with his PB of 5:57:17.  Mirko Warnke finished in 6:43:15 and Izabela Polchowska also ran a PB of 7:33:57.  The unstoppable duo of Bernie Kelly and Una Murphy crossed the line together in 7:58:52.

 

Great success at National 10km !

The AAI National 10k Championships in conjunction with the Great Ireland 10k Run took place on Sunday last  15th April in the Phoenix Park , Dublin.  Fourteen eager GCH athletes made their annual trek to the Park to participate in the Championships.  Conditions on the day were hardy with showers and windy in places, The elite women and AAI club women started at 11am, followed at 11.20am by the elite men/AAI men and the masses.

Please note the following dates for the upcoming County championships to be held in Dangan. 

The entry sheets are available at training for anyone who wishes to take part.  Participation at this event is open to all levels of ability.

Sunday 29th April – 10am – Dangan – U13  - U19s

Sunday 6th May – 10am  - Dangan – U9 - U12s

Closing date is Wednesday 18th April.  There will be no entries taken on the day.

There will be no training in Dangan on the above  competition dates.

Galway County Athletics Association of Ireland Awards

Congratulations to the following GCH athletes who have been selected for a 2017 Galway County Athletics Association of Ireland award for their outstanding achievements during the year. Fifteen in total -including those on teams. Awards will be presented at a celebration dinner at the Meadow Court Hotel, Loughrea at 6:30 pm this Saturday, April 14th.

Craughwell and Colemanstown Races

There were a number of GCH athletes competing at the Craughwell 10 mile and Craughwell 10k last weekend. No County 10 mile Championship results to hand at present, but will post at a later date when they become available. Matt Bidwell of GCH was the overall Craughwell 10 mile winner in a time of 56.22, with Kevin Mooney of Craughwell second and Dermot Gorman of Raheny Shamrocks in third. Martin Kearney was first v60 in 1:05:36.
