The AAI National 10k Championships in conjunction with the Great Ireland 10k Run took place on Sunday last 15th April in the Phoenix Park , Dublin. Fourteen eager GCH athletes made their annual trek to the Park to participate in the Championships. Conditions on the day were hardy with showers and windy in places, The elite women and AAI club women started at 11am, followed at 11.20am by the elite men/AAI men and the masses.
Please note the following dates for the upcoming County championships to be held in Dangan.
The entry sheets are available at training for anyone who wishes to take part. Participation at this event is open to all levels of ability.
Sunday 29th April – 10am – Dangan – U13 - U19s
Sunday 6th May – 10am - Dangan – U9 - U12s
Closing date is Wednesday 18th April. There will be no entries taken on the day.
There will be no training in Dangan on the above competition dates.

Congratulations to the following GCH athletes who have been selected for a 2017 Galway County Athletics Association of Ireland award for their outstanding achievements during the year. Fifteen in total -including those on teams. Awards will be presented at a celebration dinner at the Meadow Court Hotel, Loughrea at 6:30 pm this Saturday, April 14th.

There were a number of GCH athletes competing at the Craughwell 10 mile and Craughwell 10k last weekend. No County 10 mile Championship results to hand at present, but will post at a later date when they become available. Matt Bidwell of GCH was the overall Craughwell 10 mile winner in a time of 56.22, with Kevin Mooney of Craughwell second and Dermot Gorman of Raheny Shamrocks in third. Martin Kearney was first v60 in 1:05:36.
Day 2 of the National Championships took place in Athlone on Sunday and there were once again several outstanding performances for our athletes who won six additional national medals on the day. Over the two days the club has brought home 11 national medals this year, a measure of the work that these athletes have put in over the winter months.
It was double gold for Sean Breathnach at the very competitive European Masters Indoor Championships, held over this past week in Madrid. A delighted Sean, current holder of the Irish Indoor shot putt record, took gold in the master 35 men category with a super throw of 18.06 on Wednesday, and went on the following day to take gold in the m35 discus with a throw of 47.46.
